Nagam demands Speaker’s resignation for anti-Dalit remarks

Hyderabad, September 02: Controversy is brewing over the publication of some alleged remarks made by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Nadendla Manohar in the Wikileaks Cable.

Suspended TDP MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy alleged that the Speaker has made remarks against Dalits and the same has been published in the Wikileaks Cable. However, the Speaker’s Secretariat was quick to respond and immediately issued a clarification. “Reports in certain sections of the media have mentioned about the then Deputy Speaker Sri N Manohar remarks in the Wikileaks Cable. Sri Manohar completely denies that such views were ever expressed in any conversation with anyone and the mention made is far from truth and absolutely false.”

However, Nagam used the occasion to express his ire. He described the Speaker as anti-Dalit and anti-Telangana. He said Manohar was delaying the decision on the resignations submitted by Telangana MLAs only to stall the formation of Telangana. He also challenged the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to dissolve the assembly and go for fresh mandate. He said the next elections would prove that all voters in the region want separate Telangana. However, he said the Speaker was delaying the process by not accepting the resignations submitted by the Telangana MLAs.

Demanding Manohar’s resignation from the Speaker’s post, Nagam said he must prove that he did not make any anti-Dalit comment which has been published by the Wikileaks Cable.
