Nagam dares Naidu to oppose him in Nagarkurnool By-Poll

Former minister and Telangana Nagara Samithi chairman Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy on Thursday wrote an open letter to the TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu challenging the latter to contest against him in the ensuing election if he has guts. Naidu’s former lieutenant also challenged his former boss that he would quit politics permanently if Chandrababu Naidu saved his deposit.

In the letter, Dr Nagam, who earlier crossed swords with Naidu and quit TDP on the Telangana issue, made it clear that any TDP candidate, who opposed him in the Nagarkurnool by-election would not get even deposit. He also declared that he would retire from active politics if the TDP supremo wrote to Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram extending his support for formation of Telangana State.

Demanding that the TDP pass a resolution in favour of Telangana State as promised during the 2009 Assembly elections, Dr Nagam charged the TDP president with destroying the party due to his faulty policies. However, that party activists were protecting it from extinction, he added.

Dr Nagam said that he not only fought against tyranny of late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy when he was in TDP, but also stood by the harassed party activists whenever they were terrorized and murdered by Congress goons.

Stating that the TDP’s strength in the Telangana region was revealed in the by-elections held in the region, Dr Nagam said that Naidu’s party would be totally wiped out in the region during the next elections. Dubbing the TDP as “Telangana Drohula Party” (Telangana traitors party), he said that the TDP which was founded for welfare of the poor and downtrodden sections has now transformed into a party of affluent people. He also reiterated that Chandrababu was the first person to obstruct formation of Telangana State. (NSS)
