Kohima, October 01: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today expressed displeasure over the statement of Union Minister of State for Rural Development Agatha Sangma, who had praised the Nagaland Government for doing well in implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS).
In a statement issued here NPCC vice-president Z Vadeo said, ”Ms Sangma’s statement was self-defeating as far as the objective of NREGA is concerned as the people of Nagaland are well aware that the total sanitation campaign in Nagaland was a big flop and the implementation of NREGA-1 and 2 schemes were dismal.” He also demanded the Union Minister to institute an impartial investigation to find out the ground reality at the grassroots level so as to ensure transparency and effective implementation of the CSS, particularly NREGA, at the earliest.
”How could she blindly claim that NREGA was doing well when the jobcard holders’ payment ranged from zero in some villages to one-third of total wage in other villages,” he stated.
The NPCC further said the young NCP Union Minister ”dashed the high expectations of the people of Nagaland from her by singing the praises of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) Government, ignoring the cries of the deprived rural people.” ”Her statement has given licence to the corrupt NPF-NCP coalition DAN Government to openly rob money meant for the poor,” the statement said.
