Andhra Pradesh Regional Office of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has decided to support 600 more farmers clubs in the state during the current year taking the total clubs being supported in the state to 2000. In a release, NABARD Chief General Manager P Mohanaih today said formers clubs were excellent platform for farmers to come together to find solution to their farm related problems collectively. NABARD is promoting farmers clubs to facilitate farmers access to credit, technology, markets and extension services. The vision of farmers club programme is ‘development of rural areas through credit, technology transfer, market awareness and capacity building’. As on 31 January 2012, 91675 clubs were formed in the entire country, out of which 6594 clubs were formed in Andhra Pradesh which is 7.2 per cent of the total clubs fromed in the country. NABARD has set a corporate goal of forming one lakh farmers clubs by March 31, 2012 in the country and out of which 7334 will be formed in Andhra Pradesh. Andhra Pradesh Regional Office has extended grant assistance of Rs 335.71 lakh for promoting the clubs during 2010-11, the release added. UNI
