N-Power equipment unit at Vizag soon

Hyderabad, January 20: A proposal to set up a nuclear power equipment manufacturing facility at a cost of Rs 2500 crore ( USD 600 billion) in Andhra Pradesh is likely to take a definite shape shortly. This has come up for discussion between Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Brighton Group Chairman Kit Kung. A Memorandum of Understanding is also likely to be signed between the
two shortly. The heavy equipment and forged steel manufacturing company represents group of companies founded by Kit Kung in 1980 with headquarters in USA.

As a leading equipment supplier with world-wide coverage it currently maintains field offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Taiyuan, Chongqing and Wuhan. It will manufacture large forged steel components used in the third generation nuclear power plants besides equipment for large industries including petrochemicals, conventional power plants ( electric and hydro) and shipbuilding, informed Minister for Major Industries J Geetha Reddy while briefing media persons at the Secretariat on Thursday.

The government has earmarked 800 acres at Nakkapalli in Visakhapatnam district for the proposed plant through the APIIC.

The company is expected to take 2500 highly skilled personnel, provide 10,000 employees through indirect employment besides providing jobs to over one lakh in a span of five years. The production will begin in two years, said Mr Kit Kung, adding that their company had expansion plans in the world including India.

The proposed huge plant has capacity to produce 3 to 4 units every year, each unit utilising 30,000 tonnes of steel costing us $ 200 million, said Mr Kit Kung. This unit can be used to set up the nuclear power manufacturing plants.
The new plant requires additional support factories as ancillary units in its surroundings and with this the parent plant will envisage employment to over one lakh people.

Mr Kit Kung expressed happiness over the deal and asked for infrastructure support like power, gas, water and a connecting road to the proposed plant which Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had assured to comply. Mr Kit Kung also asked for supply of natural gas allocation for their plant.

He also formally invited the AP team to visit their plant in China. Ms Geetha Reddy expressed the hope that they would soon have a power point presentation on the plant and it’s working. Industry and Commerce Department Principal Secretary Sam Bob, APIIC Vice Chairman and MD BR Meena and senior officials from both the sides attended the meeting.
