My govt is stable: Rosaiah

Hyderabad, August 17: Unfurling the national flag at the Independence Day parade for the first time as the chief minister of the state, K Rosaiah today tried to drive home the point that his administration was stable and the official machinery was working vigorously to provide better governance.

The chief minister said he concentrated more on general administration in the last six months and was able to meet the people. Mentioning the tragic demise of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, unprecedented floods in Krishna river and agitation in favour and against separate state of Telangana from September last year to February this year, he said the state underwent troubled times.

Rosaiah said his district tours and regular review of development schemes and welfare programmes put the government machinery back on track and started yielding good results. The revenue collection from April to June this year increased to Rs 10,738 crore registering 31 per cent growth compared to Rs 8,170 crore for the corresponding period last year.

Quoting Swami Vivekananda, the chief minister said, “When I asked the God to give power, he has given lots of troubles.” It means that when the man is confronted with problems, his inherent power comes out or it increases, he said. From 2004 to 2009, the production of foodgrains in the State increased by 60 lakh tonnes. The foodgrain production is likely to be high this year due to good monsoon. Special emphasis was laid on supply of quality seeds and other agricultural inputs to farmers, he said.

Speaking on power generation, he said 7,500 mw capacity would be added to the existing 14,903 mw in the next four years. The chief minister reminded that the domestic power tariff was not increased and the Congress government was committed to supplying free power to the farm sector.

Rosaiah categorically stated that he did not want to introduce his own style in governance. This was his answer to those who observed that his government schemes were old and he should have his own stamp on governance to prove himself as an able administrator. He said new schemes would be formulated keeping in view the larger interests of the people and not to introduce his own style of governance.

The chief minister said his main aim was to ensure that the development programmes initiated by former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy were implemented successfully. For this, a fourpoint programme was evolved. As part of it, the basic structure of the schemes would be changed wherever needed and loopholes if any would be plugged in their implementation. It would also be seen that only the real beneficiaries get the benefits and funds would be made available for all the welfare programmes, Rosaiah said.
