Mega star-turned politician Chiranjeevi has made it clear that none of his family members would contest from Tirupati seat being vacated by him on his election to the Rajya Sabha.
Speaking to the media after filing his nomination for RS, Chiranjeevi has said there was no truth in reports that his wife Surekha or brother Nagababu would be contesting from Tirupati. He said none of his family members would contest from there. He has dismissed reports on this as mere figment of imagination by the media.
When asked about his Rajya Sabha nomination, Chiranjeevi has said that Congress might have chosen him for the Upper House of Parliament as he had come to the rescue of the party when it faced no-confidence motion in the Assembly. He said he had only performed his duty democratically.
He has thanked the Congress High Command for showing special affection for him. He said he would try to live up to the confidence reposed on him by the Congress party and try to strengthen it. He said he would relentlessly work for Congress party’s victory in 2014. Stating that he would never forget Tirupati constituency which gave him political life, the former Mega Star has said he would treat that as his own constituency and work for its development. He has congratulated the other three who were nominated by the party to Rajya Sabha. He said it was now proved that the Congress party would reward hard work, as Ananda Bhaskar got RS nomination.
Ananda Bhaskar has said RS nomination was for him a great responsibility and not a gift as Chiranjeevi said. He said the Congress party had seen several victories and defeats during its 125 year history and there were times when it was criticized that Congress was reduced to the stature of a regional party. Now Congress leaders were witnessing how a party should be run, under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi.
Government Chief Whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy has said Ananda Bhaskar getting RS nomination was a proof that Congress rewarded hardworking people. He said Chiranjeevi has become a special attraction for the Congress party.
Palvai Govardhan Reddy has said he would work with all sections and strive for strengthening the Congress party. He has also said that he would also make the Telangana voice heard by the Congress High Command. In the state, he has vowed to strengthen Congress. (NSS)
