Muzaffarpur shelter home: SC raps Bihar govt for not arresting Manju Verma

Muzaffarpur (Bihar): The Supreme Court of India has expressed its displeasure over government’s “failure” to arrest former Bihar minister Manju Verma in connection with the Muzaffarpur shelter home case.

A bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Madan Bhinmrao Lokur, observed, “All is not well in Bihar. Former minister goes hiding and the government does not know and has failed to arrest her even after her bail plea was rejected.”

The Janata Dal (United) leader was to be arrested after her anticipatory bail in an Arms Act case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was rejected by the Patna High Court on October 9.

The apex court asked the state government as to why the former minister has not been arrested yet. Verma resigned as the Social Welfare Minister of Bihar in August after her husband came under fire for allegedly having links with Brajesh Thakur, the prime accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case.

The shelter home rape case pertains to the alleged sexual harassment of 44 girls residing at the state-run shelter home.
