Muslims will be safe in Telangana

Hyderabad, May 12: The Jamaat-e-Islami has dismissed fears of Hyderabad becoming a haven for extremists and Telangana an abode for communal forces as a result of separate statehood for Telangana. The Andhra Pradesh wing of the group today stated that Muslims and other communities would be as safe in Telangana as in the rest of the country.

The organisation felt that bifurcation or trifurcation of the state would benefit the people of all three regions of the present composite state.

Speaking to reporters after submitting a representation to the Srikrishna Committee here today, Jamaat-e- Islami Hind president Moulana Malik Moatasim Khan said some political parties were unnecessarily creating fears among Muslims for their personal benefit and to derive political mileage. “In case of separation, all three regions can be developed due to easy access to administration.

Be it Hindu or Muslim, it will be beneficial to all,’’ he said.

Stating that backwardness in Telangana was the result of deliberate policies, Moatasim Khan said the injustice done to Telangana can be redressed only by carving out a separate Telangana state.

“We are fighting against the injustice done to this region but not in favour of regionalism or communalism,’’ he said.

The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind stated that a separate state of Telangana was necessary for historical reasons, and for failing to implement agreements signed in 1956.
