Muslims should give up claim on Ayodhya site

Lucknow, October 16: The Nirmohi Akhara announced that its stand that any negotiation for a peaceful settlement to the Ramjanambhoomi-Babri mosque dispute could be possible only if Muslims gave up claim on the disputed site.

Akhara chief Mahant Bhaskar Das was speaking to mediapersons after a closed-door meting with Bajrang Dal founder president and BJP national vice-president Vinay Katiyar in Ayodhya.

Last week, Katiyar had also held a closed-door discussion with Nirvani Akhara chief and Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad president Mahant Gyan Das over the dispute in the light of the Allahabad High Court’s verdict which had ordered division of the disputed land into three parts, one to the Nirmohi Akhara comprising Ram Chabootara,

Sita Rasoi and Bandar, one to the Muslims and the place where idols of Ramlalla stand to be reserved for the deity, irrespective of whichever way the land division takes place, with the added provision that the affected party might be compensated from the 67 acre land acquired by the Centre.

Bharskar Das said in case the Muslims approach the Supreme Court against the Allahabad High Court verdict the Nirmohi Akhara would do the same.

On the other hand, Ramjanambhoomi Nyas senior member Ram Vilas Das Vedanti said all efforts would continue for a negotiated settlement to the dispute till the High-Powered Committee meeting on Wednesday, which would take a final decision on the approach to take further steps on the matter.

Vedanti, as a member of the VHP, has not been welcomed by the seers and sants because the Hindu parties and leaders involved in the dispute would rather prefer a solution through talks among the local litigants.

Meanwhile, the oldest Muslim litigant, Hashim Ansari on Friday reiterated his well-known stand that all efforts for a negotiated settlement within the next 60 days would continue and politicians should keep off the matter.
