The impression of the Muslim youths of today is that in addition to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad there must have been two or three other Muslims who participated in the freedom struggle of India against the British imperialism.
The fact is the Muslims are the ones who started freedom struggle. They were arrested, tortured and imprisoned. Their number is so large that the Muslims can tell with pride that the Muslims have shed maximum blood for the freedom of India. Attempts are being made to belittle the role of the Muslims in the freedom struggle.
These thoughts were expressed by Mr. Mohammed Ziauddin Nayyar, acting president of Iqbal Academy, Hyderabad. He was addressing a meeting of the Study Circle of Tameer-e-Millat on “Mutiny – The story of treachery of the British”.
The meeting started with the recitation of the Quranic verses by Qari Mohammed Suleman. Mr. Shahnawaz Hashmi offered salam for the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).
Continuing his speech, Mr. Ziauddin Nayyar said that the Britishers did not conquer India with the strength of the sword. They got it with bribe, conspiracy & divide and rule policy. They got victories in India in an era when the local rulers were engaged in a state of demoralization and political anarchy.
Dr. Islamuddin Mujahid highlighted that details of the first war of freedom and said that in 1885 Congress party was formed and in 1906 Muslim League was started. Both these parties could not come to a common agreement on religious and cultural basis but they came together and signed the Lucknow Manifesto temporarily to fight against the Britishers. Mr. Ziauddin Nayyar presided over the function. Dr. Yousuf Hamidi conducted the meeting and proposed vote of thanks at the end.
