Muslims Must Prevent Islam From Being Misused – Rais

Kuala Lampur, October 07: Muslims must rise and state their stand on Islam in order to prevent it from being used by certain quarters for their own vested interests, said Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.

He said the move by the opposition pact’s non-Muslim members in using Quranic verses in the Bagan Pinang state seat by-election campaign had reached the limit.

“As Muslims, we must tell them to cease and desist. It’s enough that they have hoodwinked the people by misusing religion. We must voice the truth,” he said after accompanying the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin in launching the exhibition, “Syed Ahmad Jamal: Painter” at the National Art Gallery, here, Tuesday.

He was asked by reporters to comment on the action of Padang Serai member of parliament N. Gobalakrishnan in using a Quranic verse when campaining for PAS in Bagan Pinang in order to draw voters’ support.

Rais, who is also Information Communication and Culture Minister, urged the people to reject PAS.

“We should reject PAS, it should just focus on Kelantan. Let the people of Negeri Sembilan carry on with their work based on the adat perpatih concept which has been in practice in the area,” he said.
