Now that only 10 days have left for the general elections to be held in Telangana, awareness needs to be created among minorities regarding importance of their votes. There are nearly 140 segments of Telangana and Seemandhra where minorities can play a decisive role including 100 assembly segments of Telangana. As per the 2001 census 140 assembly segments have 10 to 50 thousand Muslim votes. They are set to play kingmakers. If they decide to support any particular party its chances of winning elections are certain.
The assembly segments where Muslim population is more than 30 thousand are Warangal (East), Kareem Nagar, Nizamabad (urban), Zaheerabad, Mahboob Nagar, Kurnool, Madanapalle, Punganur, Kamalapuram, Podduttoor, Adooni, Kadapa, rayachoti, Anantapur, Hindupur, Gadri, Allagadda, Srisailam and Nandikishor.
Under Greater Hyderabad limits, highest number of Muslim voters is in Bahadurpura assembly segments with a population of nearly 2 lakhs. The number of minority voters in Yaqutpura, Chandrayangutta, Malakpet, Nampally, Charminar and Karwan assembly segments is nearly 1.5 lakh.
