Ahmedabad: Following the alleged assault on four Dalit youths in Una town of Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district, Muslims Youth Group submitted a memorandum to Ahmedabad collector, seeking banning of ‘gau raksha samitis’ or Cow vigilante groups across the state.
According to The Indian Express report, advocate and activist Shamshad Pathan, alleged that the “connivance” of the police in the brutal thrashing of Dalit youths in Una was quite “clear”.
“The suspension of police personnel is not enough. They should also be booked for the offence for which the accused belonging to the gau raksha samiti have been booked. The policemen should be arrested because they collaborated with the accused,” said Pathan.
These private gau raksha samitis allegedly indulged in extortion and other crimes on the pretext of cow protection. “It is the job of the police and not private armies,” and should be booked under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act, demanded Pathan.
