Muslims demand opening of closed historical mosques

New Delhi, September 27: To maintain the sanctity, conservation and opening of the mosques which comes under the archaeological department of Delhi a high level meeting was held in Delhi secretariat.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dixit, Delhi Waqf Board chairman Chaudhary Matin Ahmad, chairman of Delhi state minority commission Kamal Farooqi, head of the archaeological survey of India KN Srivastava and superintendent of ASI, Delhi Mohammad KK.

Sheila Dixit gave the assurance in the meeting that the sanctity of the mosques will be maintained at any cost and every necessary step will be taken to maintain the piousness of the mosques in Delhi.

Kamal Farooqi chairman of the Delhi state minority commission who had written the letter to the ASI said that the sanctity of mosques is not being maintained in the mosques that are locked by the ASI on the name of conservation. Foreign tourists enter in these mosques with shoes and slippers on. Anti social elements use these place for drinking wine and gambling.

Kamal Farooqi requested the authorities to hand over these mosques to Muslim so prayer could be offered by Muslims in these mosques and prevent it’s from misuse.

In reply to the letter by Kamal Farooqi ASI chief said that if a single mosque is opened problem will be created across India and people will demand to open all the historical mosques that will not be possible legally.

Kamal Farooqi and Chaudhary Mateen Ahmad protested against the statement of ASI chief.

After listening to Kamal Farooqi, Chaudhary Mateen and ASI chief, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit though did not given any assurance to open these mosques but said that she will try her best to maintain the sanctity of the mosques and in order to prevent its misuse by anti social elements there will be fencing all side of the mosque.
