Muslims demand judicial enquiry in Batla House encounter

New Delhi, September 27: On the occasion of third anniversary of infamous Batla House encounter in which two innocent youth (Alleged Indian Mujahideen terrorists by police) and a police officer were killed, several Muslim organizations organized protest march all over India particularly in Delhi and Azamgarh. The biggest protest was by the member of Rshtriya Ulema Council at Jantar Mantar, here in New Delhi.

About 10000 people attended this protest. Among the protesters most of them came from Azamgarh by a special train. It was a mammoth march and the participants walked 14 kilometers from Safdarjung Railway station to Jantar Mantar bringing traffic to a screeching halt.

The protesters were demanding judicial enquiry against the Delhi police officials and said that the two boys killed were innocent students studying in Delhi’s central university Jamia Millia Islamia.

Speaking on the occasion Maulana Aamir Rashadi Madni, national President of the Rashtriya Ulema Council said that there should be an independent judicial enquiry of this incident. He said that the two youth Atif Amin and Mohd Sajad, who were killed in the encounter, were innocent.

He said that if any one thinks that the encounter was true then why the Government is not ready for the enquiry of this infamous encounter by a sitting Supreme Court judge. He said that the encounter was an attempt to save the then Union home minister Shivraj Patil.

The CBI should probe the incident. Why is the government hesitating if it thinks that the encounter was justified, he wanted to know. He further said that the circumstances in which police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma of Delhi Police’s Special Cell was killed in the encounter should also be probed.

Maulana said that we are demanding a judicial probe into the matter for the last three years but the government is not listening to us. Maulana accused the Congress Party of using the Muslim community as vote-bank and nothing more. He said that the government arrests and tortures Muslim youth as a cover-up for its own inefficiencies after each terror attack or blast.

Maulana said that in most of the cases Police implicates innocents Muslims and put them behind bars. As the police do not get evidence against the victims only then the innocent Muslims are freed. He requested Government to give compensation to those who were falsely and the punishment be given to culprit police officers who disturbed their peaceful lives.

Meanwhile in a protest march organized at Batla House by the Delhi unit of Rashriya Ulema council and few other youth leaders, Maulana Madni had said that our protest will be for a long time. We will fight till Justice for the victims is achieved. The others who spoke on the occasion were Faisal Khan, Ameeq Jamei, Ansar Karim Qidwai, A Mohammad Raghib and Fateh Mohammad Nadvi. All the speakers requested Muslim to unite politically otherwise the Muslims will be targeted again and again.

Maulana Madni requested Muslim to under the value of their votes. He said that if the Muslims understand the value of their votes these types of infamous encounter will not happen in future. He asked Muslims to unite and vote unitedly for those who care you and those who will work for you.

Santosh Kumar, national spokesman of Rashtiya Ulema Council said that there is a conspiracy to defame Azmgarh. Why all the terrorists are from Azamgarh?, he wanted to know.

Local MLA Asif Mohammad Khan who had played very important role allegedly after fake encounter said that our demand for judicial enquiry is still valid. “We want to wash the black spot on our face and this will only be possible by judicial enquiry. I am demanding for that for the last three years but nobody is listening”, the local MLA said.

Kamran Siddiqui of NGO Real Cause is too very angry with the conception that the people of Jamia Nagar are mysterious. He said that why the Government is not meeting the demand of Muslim to enquire this incident.

Not only the Muslim leaders or ulema but the local residents refuse to believe the boys they saw going to college every day were hardcore terrorists. One of the resident living very close to L-18 said “I cannot believe the police theory. I still believe that they were innocent and they have nothing to do with terrorism”.

Meanwhile member of Jamia Nagar Coordination committee has written a letter to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi asking her to take personal interest and give the permission for judicial enquiry in this ‘fake’ encounter so the victims should get justice.
