Muslims of Begumpet Old Custom Basti have been struggling for Muslim graveyard for long. Local MLA and state minister T Srinivas Rao had offered to give land for Muslim graveyard in Kukatpally nala. Despite strong resentment by local Muslims, Srinivas Yadav issued orders to expedite construction of graveyard on the nala.
In this connection a large number of residents of Begumpet led by Masjid Committee President Kareem Pasha Bhai approached Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali and apprised him of the situation. They also reminded that on the occasion of inauguration of Begumpet Link Road, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had promised to give 2 acre clean land for Muslim graveyard. Ameerpet MRO had also surveyed 2 acre land for graveyard at the back side of Hyderabad Public School but suddenly the layout was changed and now the graveyard is being constructed on filthy nala.
Deputy Chief Minister assured the Muslims of Begumpet that chief minister’s promise would be fulfilled. He sent a letter to Municipal Commissioner and also called him on phone expressing strong anger on the move. He directed the Commissioner to implement the plan under which the land for graveyard was identified at the backside of HPC.
