Hyderabad, June 9: State government has issued directions to Pachayat Raj department to enlist Muslims under BC (E) category and to give importance to ‘E’ category while preparing BC voter lists on gram panchayat level.
Muslims were included in OC category in voters list during gram panchayat elections held in 2006 however in 2007 government included 17 Muslim castes in BC category for the purpose of providing reservations in education and employment.
These Muslims castes were identified as E category during GHMC elections also. Government has announced elections in local bodies within next three months and voter list is being prepared on caste basis on district level.
According to reliable sources following the recent Supreme Court judgment there was confusion among officials preparing voters list, however the government after consulting law department has issued formal directions to prepare voter list enlisting Muslims in BC (E) category.
