Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said on Tuesday that Muslims in Manipur “were born by Manipuri mothers and we are blood relations”.
Referring to the 48-hour general strike and other forms of protests against the demolition of several houses and a school building at Khetri Begoon on Monday, Biren Singh said that the razing shall continue.
“There is no communalism in the present drive. When houses and shops of several elderly women and poor persons were demolished along the Nambil river, there is no protest even from the Muslim settlers at Khetri Begoon.
“There were three houses with nine family members at the village who are of dubious nationality,” he said.
Meanwhile, normal life was disrupted in all Muslim-dominated areas on Tuesday in Manipur from midnight of Monday in response to the general strike called by some Muslims groups protesting against the demolition of Muslim houses at Khetri Begoon.
Police fired tear gas to disperse men and women who blocked traffic on all major roads.
