Even as the science and technology have developed by leaps and bounds, some women are still the victim of false notions and fallacies consequently they tend towards superstition. They approach strangers for remedies neglecting Islamic principles and beliefs. Constant rise in the incidents of black magic, practicing spell etc is a matter of concern.
A similar incident was witnessed at a temple on the foot of Charminar where two burqa clad Muslim women were seen making an offering at the temple just before the Zohr prayers. The duo was mother and daughter. The Telugu New Year Ugadi puja was being performed at that time when the two burqa clad women entered into the temple and handed over few items to the priest that were to be offered in the temple. After offering coconut, and flowers they placed 110 rupees in the temple utensil as an offering. When both of them came out of the temple they told their names as Noor Jehan Begum and Khaja Bi. They told that they were mother and daughter and stayed at Talabkatta. When they were asked why did they do this? They posed a counter question disclosing a shocking revelation that how could they shirk from the act done by their elders? If they refrain from doing that they would fall into trouble. Khaja Bi told that temple’s goddess comes into her dreams and talks to her.
She further said she had refrained from this act in the past and consequently two of her sons left them alone.
This is the result of superstitious beliefs instilled among Muslim women. This is a grave matter of concern for Muslim community and scholars. We need to contemplate upon this, that where will the apostasy on one side and the superstition on another drive us to?
