Muslim Personal Law Board turns to social media for Sharia issues

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is all set to enter social media in a big way.

The Board has comes to a decision to set up a cell to monitor and post its officials’ stand on Sharia-related issues on a regular basis to deal with qualms that figure on social media regularly.
The issue was taken up at the Executive Committee meeting of the Board held at Nadwutul Ulema in Lucknow on Sunday.

It was also decided to involve people of all communities to launch a nationwide campaign against making lessons on Gita, yoga and Surya Namaskar mandatory in government schools.
According to them, making such changes in curriculum of government schools was not in favor of the law of the land and there was a need to form public opinion on such issues.

Board will become a party to Sharia-related cases pending before different courts of the country.

The issue of Board’s noticeable absence from the social media was taken up by Maulana Khalid Rasheed, a member of the executive committee of the Board. “It is high time that the Board made its presence felt on the social media primarily because of its reach and impact,” said Rasheed talking to TOI. “Members agreed that the Board must use the social media as a part of its campaign to reach out to the masses on regular basis,” he said.

The Board, as part of its campaign for awareness of Sharia-related issues, also took up the issue of streamlining its interaction with the media.

“The committee will also find ways to make the Muslim community aware of its constitutional rights,” said a member of the executive committee of the Board. The issue of increasing the representation of the youth within the Board was also taken up. Almost 60% of the Board members are above 70 years of age.
