Hyderabad: Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, Hyderabad-based Spokesperson and Secretary of All Indian Muslim Personal Board, told siasat.com over phone, “It is the responsibility of every citizen of India to respect the Supreme Court judgement (on Babri Masjid).”
“We accept the verdict and abide by the law. However, a meeting of the Board will be called for soon where the question for going on appeal against the judgement would also be discussed,” he said.
Maulana Rahmani who is visiting Darbhanga district in Bihar said that the Board did not lag behind in any effort to handle the case. In a way he was countering the view in certain sections of the Muslim society that the Board did not handle the case as it should have been from the beginning.
He was happy over the Supreme Court’s observation that Babri Mosque was not built by demolishing a temple.
Asma Zehra, Member of the AIMPB, said that all members of the board would abide by Board’s acceptance of the Supreme Court judgement.
Senior advocate and President of All India Majlis Tameer-e-Millat Jaleel Ahmed, concurred with Maulana Rahmani and appealed all Indians to maintain calm “in these testing times.”
Jaleel Ahmed said, “We accept the verdict as it was agreed upon all Muslim organizations to accept the decision of the Supreme Court, whichever way it went.”
At the same time he said that the community felt disappointed over the verdict as it has been based on inconclusive findings of the Archeological Survey of India.
He believed that the judgement has safeguards for future protection of historic Muslim mosques and shrines. “We get sense of it by the Supreme Court’s strong condemnation of the Babri Masjid demolition and the placement of idols within it,” he added.
