Muslim organisations today joined the ongoing protest for pollution-free Ganga in this temple city of Uttar Pradesh. Shahi Imam Maulana Abdul said God created water before human being. Thus, water should be protected by all as a primary responsibility. Yesterday, the BJP had joined the agitation for clean Ganga. UP BJP president Surya Pratap Sahi sat on a fast along with party workers in support of agitating Krishna Priyanand at Shankaracharya ghat, demanding formation of law on cleanliness of the rivers. Meanwhile, Christian leader Chandrakant said the Ganga is the necessity of all and should be secured by people. Ganga, which is associated with the religious feelings of scores of Hindus, needs attention of the government. The river water is getting black, owing to pollution and waste remains. Three days ago, the people associated with the campaign had pasted over four lakhs stickers and posters in the city. The posters and banners were pasted on walls, shops, vehicles and road-side walls to draw the attention of the government on the growing pollution in river Ganga. The renowned ‘Ganga Aarti’ has already been postponed till April 17 next as a mark of protest over growing pollution in the river Ganga. UNI
