ROHTAK: Tension gripped Titoli village of this district on Sunday when a dispute arose over the burial of a member of the Muslim community in a local graveyard situated in the village.
Muslims living in the Jat-dominated village for centuries and using land as a graveyard. However, after the death of a calf on August 22 allegedly killed by a Muslim man named Yaseen, who was arrested, there was a tension in the village.
In anger, the villagers buried the calf near the graveyard, according to Times Of India reports.
A resident, Jaivir Khokkar, 45 passed away in Gurugram on Saturday after meeting with an accident and his kin took the body to the graveyard for burial but a section of villagers allegedly objected claiming that the calf was buried there.
Upon intimation about the ruckus, police rushed to the spot. The matter was resolved with the intervention of the administration and village elders.
Under police protection, the body of the deceased was taken to the graveyard and last rites were performed.
Police personnel were deployed to prevent the untoward situation.
