Muslim leaders reject KCR’s offer for SIT probe into Alair encounter

The Muslim United Forum, an umbrella body of various religious, social and political organisations, has rejected the offer of probe through a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the Alair encounter wherein five under trials were killed in the police firing on April 7.

Reacting to the announcement of SIT probe into the Alair encounter by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday evening, MUF leader and Assistant General Secretary of Muslim Personal Law Board Moulana Abdul Rahim Qureshi told INN that the MUF would not accept anything less than a probe through CBI or a sitting High Court judge. Although the composition and Terms of Reference of SIT would be known only on Monday, prima facie, the MUF is not willing to accept the Chief Minister’s announcement, he said.

Moulana Rahim Qureshi said that since all members of SIT would belong to Telangana Police, a fair probe into the encounter could not be expected. He maintained that killing of five under trials at Alair was the result of a “fake encounter”. (INN)
