SHIMLA: A Muslim IAS-IPS couple from Himachal Pradesh sets example of humanity, by `adopting` a martyr Paramjit Singh’s daughter.
Yunus Khan, an IAS officer and his wife Anjum Ara, an IPS officer, has decided to adopt the 12-year-old daughter of an Army jawan, whose body was mutilated by Pakistani forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector on 1 May.
The Himachal-based civil servant couple, who is blessed with a 4-year-old son has contacted the martyr’s wife, Paramjit Kaur, and expressed their desire to sponsor youngest daughter Khushdeep or Khushi’s education entirety.
Yunus, an IAS officer of the 2010 batch said it is difficult to alleviate the pain of the martyr’s family, but they are making an effort to share their grief.
“By ensuring good education to his daughter, we are doing our duty as responsible citizens,” he said. “We would be there for her throughout her life to help her in making decisions,” added Yunus.
“Khushdeep will continue to stay with her family. We will be paying for all her expenses and meeting her from time to time to know about her problems and solve them. If she wants to become an IAS or IPS officer or choose some other career, we are there to help,” the Times of India quoted Ara, Superintendent of Police of Solan district, as saying.
“This is truly an example for the entire country; a person who doesn’t even relate to you is taking such a sensitive step. Our family is very grateful (to the couple); when our child will do well, surely she will also extend her goodness to others around her,” said Mukhtar Singh, Khushdeep’s grandfather.
“I simply can’t express gratitude to these kind-hearted couple. It reminds me of what the Muslim ruler of Malerkotla, Nawab Sher Mohammad Khan, had done for the youngest sahibzadas (sons) of Guru Gobind Singh Ji,” martyred subedar’s brother Ranjit Singh reportedly told the Hindustan Times.
