Hyderabad, June 10: Two days after she allegedly drowned in Gandipet lake, police said the 20-year-old woman was murdered. After fishing out Arshia’s body from the lake on Thursday, the Rajendranagar police announced that they suspect that the woman was pushed into the water by her boyfriend after she started pestering him to marry her.
The victim, Arshia, 20, of Chandrayangutta was in a relationship with one Sameer of the same locality since past nine months. After finishing Intermediate, Sameer had been working as an electrician.
Differences cropped up between the two recently after Sameer’s marriage was fixed with another girl.
On Tuesday, Arshia called Sameer and said that she wanted to meet him once. Sameer picked her up from Chandrayangutta and they went to Gandipet lake at around 7 pm. At about 8 pm, locals, who were nearby, noticed the girl falling into the water and a man escaping on a bike from the spot.
Police found a cellphone at the spot and based on the call details, her boyfriend, Sameer was nabbed on Wednesday.
“One of the witnesses claimed he noticed the girl being pushed into the water by a man. We suspect that it was Sameer who pushed her into the lake,” Rajendranagar inspector K Rambhoopal Rao said.
After fishing out the body, police booked a murder case on Thursday.
