Muslim congress leaders back Sharief for Bangalore Central LS seat

State Congress Muslim leaders demanded that C K Jaffer Sharief should be the party candidate from Bangalore Central constituency in the coming Lok Sabha elections here on February 11.

In a meeting held on February 11, the community leaders decided to convince the high command to field Muslim candidates in at least three constituencies, including Haveri and Bidar. The meeting was attended by former Union ministers, C K Jaffer Sharief, C M Ibrahim, Wakf Minister Qamar-ul-Islam and Information Minister, R Roshan Baig. Union Minister of Minority Affairs, K Rahman Khan was conspicuous by his absence.

Mr. Sharief and Mr. Khan are said to be in not so amicable terms consequent to Mr. Sharief’s demand for a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in Amanath Co-operative Bank, of which Mr. Khan was once a director. Apart from Mr. Sharief other aspirants for Bangalore Central constituency ticket are Youth Congress president Rizwan Arshad, H T Sangliana and J Alexander.
