Meerut: Upset with the exit poll results by various news channels, a senior cleric at renowned seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has now made an appeal to all mosques to recite special prayers for “favourable” election results” on May 23.
In an appeal to Muslims of India, Mufti Mehmood Hasan Bulandshahri urged Muslims to pray for all Muslims, peace of the country, protection of Islam and Muslims and preservation of masajid and madaris. He appealed to Muslims to repent for the sins and perform special tahajjud prayer and invoke Allah’s mercy.
He appealed to Muslims to stay in the masjid after taravih prayers and recite ayat-e-kareema and conduct mass prayer for favourable results in the elections.
In the prevailing scenario there is no harm in conducting mass supplications he added. He asked Muslims to utilize the days remaining before May 23.
As reported by the New Indian Express, clerics in Deoband have welcomed the move by the Mufti. Maulana Ishaq Goar, a Deobandi cleric said “We welcome the suggestion and all Muslims must follow this religiously. We are very concerned with the outcome of election results.” He said India must elect a government which would take everyone along and work to maintain brotherhood, peace and harmony in society. He added that unfortunately, we have a few parties that do politics on the grounds of religion which is not right and they should go.
