London, July 25: Music streaming has for the very first time, crossed 500 million in a week in UK.
According to the figures from the Official Charts Company, 505,849,000 audio streams took place in the week ending 16 July, which is almost twice the amount of the similar period last year, the BBC reported.
Geoff Taylor, chief executive of the BPI, said that the figures were “remarkable” and showed how quickly Brits were welcoming streaming.
He added that he hoped this would make the “world-leading record labels invest even more into unearthing the next generation of British talent for fans here and around the world.”
The most streamed song was Mark Ronson’s and Bruno Mars’s ‘Uptown Funk,’ which has been streamed more than 45 million times, while Ed Sheeran came out to be the most streamed artist with more than 170 million streams in the first six months of 2015. (ANI)
