Music icon Prince died at his Minnesota home at age 57

Pop superstar Prince ,57 , who was one of the most inventive and influential musicians of modern times was found dead at his home on Thursday in suburban Minneapolis, according to his publicist.

He defined the sound of the ’80s with songs such as “Kiss” and “Purple Rain” and defied the music industry in a fight for creative freedom.

His publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said in a statement that. “It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary iconic performer, Prince, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57,” he added. “There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”

Prince has postponed his concert in Atlanta on April 7, saying he had fallen ill with the flu, and he apologized to fans during a makeup concert last week.

Last year Prince was a White House guest with President Barack Obama, for whom Prince invited, said he and his wife “joined millions of fans from around the world” in mourning Prince’s sudden death.

Obama said in a statement. “Few artists have influenced the sound and trajectory of popular music more distinctly, or touched quite so many people with their talent.”

‘A strong spirit transcends rules,’ Prince once said and nobody’s spirit was stronger, bolder, or more creative.”

Fans camped out by Paisley Park, the artist’s home and recording studio, leaving bouquets of flowers and signs at a makeshift memorial.
