New Delhi: A delegation of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat on Wednesday met New Zealand Ambassador to India Joanna Kampkers to express their gratitude towards the New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and New Zealanders for showing great sympathy and love towards the victim of Christchurch terror attack.
The delegation which was led by Mushawarat president Navaid Hamid lauded the leadership of Prime Minister Ardern and her handling of the situation with utmost care and attention. They said that at a time when the terrorism and bloodshed is normal across the world; Muslim blood has become a cheap commodity, and terrorism is tagged to Islam, the supportive role of PM Jacinda Ardern and New Zealanders filled with love and sympathy is praiseworthy. New Zealand has set an example for world countries and their leaders.
“It is our ethical responsibility to laud and stand by those who are fighting for the right cause. We need to applaud the action taken by New Zealand government after the terror attack happened at Christchurch mosques. They set an example for the whole world. They changed the narrative regarding terrorism all over the world,” Navaid Hamid said while talking to Caravan Daily.
In their meeting with ambassador Kampkers, Mushawarat president also proposed to call for an international conference over terrorism inviting political leaders along with religious leaders.
“We also proposed to call for an International Conference over terrorism in which political leaders along with religious leaders are invited. This issue is not about the clash of civilization or clash of religion. It is totally a political issue which has been tagged with religion,” said Navaid.
They also invited ambassador Kampkers to visit New Delhi’s India Islamic Cultural Centre.
The delegation was comprised of Zafar Mahmood, President of Zakat Foundation, Maulana Shaikh Asghar Imam Mehdi Salfi, Ameer, Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadeis Hind, Intizar Naeem Assistant Secretary, Jamat-e-Islami Hind, Mushawarat secretaries Maulana Abdul Hameed Naumani and Shaikh Manzoor Ahmed

Here is the full text of the letter:
H.E. Ms. Jacinda Ardern
Honorable Prime Minister of New Zealand
Through H.E. Ms. Joanna Kempkers
Honorable High Commissioner of New Zealand to India
Excellency
On behalf of the people of India, especially Muslims, the All India Muslim Majlis Mushawarat (AIMMM), which is the Apex Body of Indian Muslims and confederation of major Muslim Organisations expresses its deepest gratitude to the citizens of New Zealand and Your Excellency for playing most laudatory role in the wake of tragic shooting incident at two Mosques in Christchurch, in which 50 faithful were brutally killed.
Your courage & conviction to steer the peaceful nation of New Zealand through its darkest hour has earned worldwide applause and you have been acclaimed as an inspirational leader of the world which faces serious threat of terrorism and extremist, hatred and Islamophobia.
The solidarity expressed by Your Excellency with the tiny Muslim population of the island nation is highly exemplary and a lesson for other nations where migrant populations are victims of hate crimes. It is our hope that other world leaders would emulate your policy of inclusiveness and equality in the society. This is the only way to make the world a better place to live.
Under your able leadership, the New Zealand Government moved quickly to ban the sale of arms and took other strong measures to prevent such incidents in future. You showed zero tolerance for terrorism, which has no religion and is against humanity.
Your Excellency’s message that “‘New Zealand be a place where there is no tolerance for racism” is highly commendable and admirable. Nobel Laureate Tagore said “Where the mind is without fear – and the head held high…..Where the world has not been broken into fragments by narrow domestic walls … into that heaven of freedom, let my country awake!” This was at display recently in New Zealand post the mosques episode.
We express our gratitude to Your Excellency once again for your statesmanship and exemplary role at time of crisis and pray for your good health and secure, peaceful and prosperous future of all citizens of New Zealand and the world.
On 15 March, an Australian Brenton Terran opened fire at two mosques of New Zealand’s Christchurch claiming lives of 50 worshippers.
