Auckland: Lovers of Hindi and Urdu poetry and ghazals can dwell into the world of literature next month in Auckland as a special event gets going. Urdu Hindi Cultural Association of Auckland is organising the event called ‘Mushaira, Kavi Sammelan and Sham-e-Ghazal’ on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Fickling Convention Centre, 546 Mt Albert Road, Three Kings, Auckland.
Promoting Hindi, Urdu
President Roopa Suchdev said that Association has been promoting Urdu and Hindi, two major languages of India and Pakistan for more than a decade.
“We conduct symposia, poetry sessions, other events and conducts regular classes in Hindi and Urdu. Among the highlights of the evening will be the release of ‘Dhanak,’ our prestigious annual magazine,” she said.
General Secretary Syed Mujeeb Hyderabadi, the man who organises the event with passion, said, “Mushaira and Kavisammelan remind us of our roots and allows young people to experience the richness of our culture and tradition and their value in the context of unity in diversity. The programme was a small but significant attempt.”
The Mushaira
The Mushaira section will be hosted by Roshni Chadha and would include the following participants: Hannan Khan, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Dr Yousuf Quraishi; Ghouse Majeed, Rahana Quraishi and Syed Mujeeb.
The Kavi Sammelan
Preeta Vyas will conduct the Kavi Sammelan with Shiv Bhagirath, Chirayu Bhatt, Bal Madan, Somnath Gupta, Brijinder Singh and Suman Kapoor as participants. Members of Parliament Michael Wood, Deborah Russell (Labour) Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, Melissa lee, Dr Parmjeet Parmar, Christopher Penk (National), Deborah Russell (Labour), Anne Degia-Pala and Rashmi Sharma from India will be among the Guests of Honour.
