These thoughts were expressed by Justice Aftab Alam, Judge of The Supreme Court while releasing the book Musafiran-e-London (Visitors of London) in New Delhi yesterday.

The function was organized by Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association, New Delhi, in collaboration with Maktaba Jamia Limited, New Delhi at Edward Said Hall at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.

Welcoming the guest, President of Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys’ Association, New Delhi, Mr. Khaja Mohammed Shahed told that Moulvi Samiullah Khan was one of the enlighten persons of his age. There is a need to highlight his deeds. They are our cultural heritage. Despite being the advocate of modernity, he was free from all kinds of religious prejudices.

Introducing the travelogue, Prof. Asghar Abbas told that Maulvi Samiullah Khan made a trip to London only to observe the grandeur of Allah. He also observe the common life of the persons in London and there Academic activities this travelogue depicts the replica of the social life of entire Europe.

Prof. Akhtar-Ul-Wasey, Vice Chairman of Urdu Academy Daily and Director Dr. Zakir Hussain Institute of Islamic Studies New Delhi, in his presidential address told that Maulvi Samiullah Khan is that Unique diamond of our cultural heritage who furthered the educational mission for the Muslims in collaboration with Sir Syed Ahmed Khan.

We link this renaissance with Raja Ram Mohan Rao. There is a need to study the paternal Grand Father of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and also a veteran member of Maulvi Samiullah Khan’s family. The beauty of this travelogue that he saw the West from the spectacles of an Indian Muslim. He also pointed out its mistakes. The programme began with the recitation of Quranic verses read by Shahnawaz Faiyaz, a student of Department of Urdu. Managing Director of Maktab-e-Jamia Limited, Prof. Khaled Mahmood introduced the visitors of London. He applauded the efforts of Prof. Asghar Abbas for publishing this commendable work.

As the Vice Chairman of Urdu Academy, Delhi Prof. Akhtar-Ul-Wasay declared that Maulvi Zaka Ullah’s biography written by Maulvi Samiullah edited by Prof. Asghar Abbas would be published by Urdu Academy, Delhi. Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, Mr. Najeeb Jung participated in this function as a special guest. It may be noted that Maulvi Samiullah Khan was the great grandfather of Mr. Najeeb Jung.

Mr. Ahmed Rasheed Sherwani, Ms, Nusrath Sherwani, Prof. S.M. Rashed (Pro Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia), Prof. G.P. Sharma, Prof. Ragini, Prof. Roderigues, Prof. Tasneem Fatima, Mr. Shameem Tariq, Prof. Razi Ahmed Kamal, Prof. Ikhtedar Mohammed Khan, Prof. Mohammed Nisar, Prof. Wahajuddin Alvi, Prof. M.P. Sharma, Prof. Akhtar Hussain, Prof. Zubair Menayi, Prof. Shehzad Anjum, Prof. Ghazanfar and Doctor Mohammed Arshad participated in the function. In addition to these dignitaries, a large number of teachers and students of Jamia Millia Islamia was also present in the function.
