Hyderabad, January 20: A man, accused of murdering his wife, committed suicide after killing the eye-witness.
The incident happened in Hafezbaba Nagar on Friday morning. According to police, 28-year-old Zaheeruddin was an accused in the murder of his first wife Nagma Begum. He had allegedly set his wife ablaze at her parent’s residence at Moosarambagh area in 2009. On a complaint lodged by Nagma’s mother Rehana Begum, a case was registered against him and he was arrested and sent to jail.
A few months after his release on bail, Zaheeruddin got married to Atiya Begum and was staying with her in Hafezbaba Nagar. On Friday, he was supposed to attend the court in connection with the murder case of his wife. However, he called up his wife Atiya, who was at her parent’s house, saying that he was not feeling well. Atiya had then sent her brother Shaker to see him as his phone was not reachable.
On finding the house locked from inside, Shaker peeped through the window and was shocked to see Zaheeruddin hanging from the ceiling fan. He immediately informed the neighbours who in turn alerted the police.
The Kanchanbagh police team broke open the door to enter the room. However, they were shocked to find another dead body in the kitchen. The deceased was later identified as Khaiser Baig (38). He was Nagma’s uncle and an eye-witness in her murder case. Zaheeruddin is suspected to have killed him by hitting him on the head with an iron rod before committing suicide.
Police shifted both the bodies to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary and started investigations. It was not yet known as to why Khaiser came to Zaheeruddin’s house and what transpired between them which led to the murder and then suicide.
