Municipal workers trash bank branch over cash withdrawal limit

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Many employees of a municipality here threw garbage outside a branch of Punjab National Bank in protest after they were told to withdraw only limited amount of their salaries due to cash shortage.

The Municipal Board employees had queued outside the bank branch to withdraw their salaries but were told that they’d be allowed to withdraw a maximum of Rs 2,000 per person due to cash shortage, police said.

This infuriated those waiting in line, which included the sanitation workers, who soon started dumping garbage outside the bank branch in protest to the bank’s decision.

“The matter was resolved after a short while as the bank employees assured protesters that they’d be allowed to withdraw more cash,” a police official said.
