Municipal employees end strike

Municipal Workers’ Union Leaders successfully completed their negotiations with Municipal Administration Minister, Mr. Mahidhar Reddy yesterday. One of the important demands was enhancement of pay which was accepted by the Govt. The workers have decided to end their 5 day strike and start at work.

As a consequent of the negotiations GHMC contract workers will now get Rs. 8, 500 whereas other Municipal workers will get Rs. 8, 300 and Rs. 6, 700. The GHMC employees in Hyderabad will now get Rs. 11, 706 whereas the other employees of Nagar Panchayath will get Rs. 11, 500 and in Gram Panchayath Rs. 10054.

Mr. Mahidhar Reddy told that this enhancement will cost Rs. 145 crore annually to the local bodies. The other issues like accident insurance, weakly holiday etc, will be resolved later. He said that keeping in View the daily lives of 60, 322 contract workers of Municipalities, Govt. has taken this decision.

Present in the meeting were, Mayor of Hyderabad Mr. Majid Husain, Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration, Dr. Sameer Sharma, Commissioner of GHMC Mr. Somesh Kumar etc. It is understood that for the disposal of garbage it requires 4 to 5 days.
