Mumbai to install 6,000 CCTV cameras by 2016

The Maharashtra government has stated that it shall install over 6,000 CCTV cameras in Mumbai over a period of one year in order to beef up security in the city.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government, after coming into power in 2014, formed a high-power committee for the project. The city has been divided into two zones, with work in the south zone, which will have 1,400 cameras, to be completed by November this year.

According to reports, the total cost of the project will be an estimated Rs 949 crore. (ANI)
