Berhampur: A temple priest was arrested on Friday in Ganjam district after he allegedly raped and impregnated a 28-year-old mentally challenged woman said the Police.
The accused was arrested from Berhampur railway station when he was trying to escape according to Inspector In-Charge of Hinjili police station, Prasant Kumar Sahu.
Police officials said the accused had allegedly raped the mentally challenged woman several times during his visits to the village during the last six months.
The incident came to light when the parents noticed their daughter was pregnant. On pressurizing her the victim narrated her ordeal to her mother who later filed a complaint against the accused on Thursday.
The Police began an investigation on the same and arrested the accused on Friday.
