Mumbai, December 29: Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the metropolis to ensure peaceful and trouble-free New Year celebrations.
The 40,000-strong police force has taken special measures and would keep a close watch on New Year revellers to avoid any untoward incident.
Police have started a special helpline for one day, besides forming anti eve teasing squads as part of security measures, Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Himanshu Roy said today.
“A large-scale police deployment is being made to ensure New Year revelry gets over without any untoward incident. Besides deploying over 40,000 police persons on December 31 night, we are coordinating with the Coast Guard to maintain strict vigil along the coastline,” he said.
After the Mumbai terror strikes last year, the city had witnessed a subdued New Year celebrations but this time police are expecting huge crowds at Gateway of India, Girgaon Chowpatty and Juhu beach.
