Mumbai Police chief calls for better coordination between IB, local police

Mumbai: Recalling his early days with the police department, especially his decade long tenure with the Intelligence Bureau, Mumbai Police Commissioner Dattatray Padsalgikar has said utilisation of the intelligence input by the local police plays a vital role during testing times, and called for better coordination between both the agencies.
In an exclusive interview to ETV News head Jagdeesh Chandra, the former Intelligence Bureau special director said that accurate information can greatly aid the police in handling the ground situation.

“If the information is given in details, then definitely police can benefit from this. And if the information is not in details, then both department have to work hand in hand to deal the situation. This is complimentary role,” he said in ETV’s popular ‘The J C Show’.

Comparing his responsibilities as an Intelligence Bureau special director and city’s Police commissioner , Padsalgikar said both roles were vastly different.

“Though earlier responsibility was quite different, still that was also very important. Here we have to be in touch with public. Nearly, 50 thousands force are under this department. So, both are quite different, but it feels good to be in the present responsibility,” he added.

The Police Commissioner said that he is striving to make the co-ordination between different departments of the Maharashtra police better, saying, “Earlier also, the co-ordination was better. Now, also we will make it better.” (ANI)
