Mumbai: Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram was taken to Byculla Jail in Mumbai on Monday by the CBI in order to question him along with Indrani Mukerjea who claims to have bribed former Union Finance Minster’s son in INX money laundering case.
According to reports Indrani Mukerjea who is sentenced jail term for murdering her daughter Sheena Bora has confirmed her confessional statement of bribing Karti Chidambaram in the money laundering case on Monday.
Speaking to TOI, CBI sources said that Mukerjea was prepared to give her statement in the court and “repeated everything she had said in her statement recorded under Section 164 of CrPC before a magistrate and during her examination by investigators.” Mukerjea claims to have bribed Karti with $700,000 in the case.
According to the reports, Mukerjea in her statement to investigation agency said that Karti had demanded a bribe for ‘settling’ the probe against INX media who were charged for violating FIPB (Foreign investment Promotion Board) rules. Mukerjea also claimed that she had met former Union Minister P Chidambaram to end the tax probe against her INX Media.
However, Karti’s legal representatives question Mukerjea’s credibility since she is the accused and serving her jail term for murdering her daughter Sheena Bora.
According to reports nearly the meeting between Karti and 6 CBI officials lasted for nearly four hours after bringing Karti to jail at 11.15 am. Karti had reportedly thrown tantrums through the interrogation, stood on CBI car’s footboard waving the media. He was forced to step down and was pushed into the car before leaving the jail said ET reports.
Karti Chidambaram was arrested on Wednesday at Chennai airport on his arrival from the United Kingdom, News Minute said.
