Mumbai: Passengers arriving and departing at Mumbai airport will have to wait for at least 6 hours before the airport operations can start working again.
The Mumbai airport is undertaking runway maintenance starting 11 am for repair and maintenance work in two phases between October and February-March period, News18 reports.
The move is likely to affect at least 300 flights during this maintenance period.
“Mumbai airport runway will be closed from 1100 hours to 1700 hours IST. Please visit Air India website, app or contact call center for details on rescheduled and canceled flights,” read Air India’s tweet on Monday.
Both runways 09/27 and 14/32 will remain closed for operations between 11 am and 5 pm on October 23 said Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) had said earlier on October 4
The second phase will be carried out in February the statement read.
The primary runway can handle up to 50 arrivals and departures an hour against the declared capacity of 46 while the secondary runway has a capacity of 35 flight movements an hour.
The Mumbai airport handles nearly 1,000 flights a day on an average.
