Multiplex theaters and shopping malls at Jubilee Bus station and MG Bus station

Hyderabad: Govt. is reviewing the proposal to start multiplex theaters and shopping malls at Jubilee Bus station and MG Bus station in order to convert TSRTC into a profitable organization. It is understood that there is a proposal to spend Rs. 90 crore to modernize the existing 9 bus stations. CM of Telangana State, Mr. KCR in his review meeting had advised GHMC to extend financial assistance to RTC to compensate its financial losses. The management of RTC provided online ticket booking to the commuters. It also provided AC buses in the City and free Wifi facility.

The management of RTC has decided to provide commercial activities at Jubilee Bus stations and MG Bus stations. It is expected that with the establishment of theaters and shopping malls, more income would be generated. After the successful experiment of Hyderabad, it would be replicated in district headquarters also. Under JNNURM scheme, Central Govt. provided 80% subsidy and 20% expenditure was borne by State Govt. for modernizing nine city bus stations located at Patancheru, Kukatpally, ECIL, Koti, Farooq Nagar, Midhani, Hayatnagar and Kachiguda.

It may be noted that in 1932, in Nizam’s State, Rail and Road Transport Dept. was started with 27 buses and 66 employees. Today, 20, 000 buses are plying. This organization is facing deficit due to the negligence various governments. Steps are being taken to convert it into an income generating organization.
