The Pimpri police have arrested five thieves, including a minor, who were involved in multiple thefts across the city.
The arrests were made on Friday and the police have recovered 15 motorcycles, 8 mobile phones, one laptop, one country-made pistol and a few live cartridges, all amounting to ₹7.53 lakh from them.
Those arrested have been identified as Nilesh Gaikwad, Shankar Pawar, Sameer Shaikh, Vikas Kamble and a minor. The gang of thieves was involved in 15 incidents of theft across the city. The arrests were made on a tip-off to the Pimpri police. Initially, they nabbed Kamble and the minor from Bhatnagar area and recovered a countrymade pistol with two live cartridges from them.
After the first arrest, police have managed to arrest the remaining offenders from other areas of the city.
According to the information provided by the Pimpri police, Kamble, Gaikwad, Pawar and Shaikh have various criminal offences registered against them under police stations of Pune, as well as Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections.
