Dept. of Arabic, Osmania University organized a two day seminar on Tafsir of Quran compiled in India. Prof. Mallesh Principal, Arts College presided over the function. He applauded the functioning of the Dept. of Arabic and the services rendered by Dr. Mohamemd Mustafa Shareef for the Dept. of Arabic, Prof. Satyanarayana, V.C. of OU. While inaugurating the seminar told that the progress made by the Dept. of Arabic is exemplary. It is making efforts to modernize its functioning which is laudable. He appreciated that a renowned Osmania scholar has been entrusted with the responsibility of heading Dairatul Maarif which is a welcome gesture. He hoped that the institution will scale greater heights under the stewardship of Dr. Mustafa Shareef.
Dr. Khusro Husaini while addressing the gathering said that Hazarath Khaja Banda Nawaz wrote a unique Tafsir which is written in Soofi style.
Prof. Zubair Ahmed Farooqui presented his key note address and said that in India more than 40 Tafasir have been written, out of which Multakhit, Kaashiful Haqayeq, Tafsir-e-Hashimi and Sawalehul Ahad are very important.
Dr. Mohammed Mustafa shareef welcomed the delegates of the seminar. He told that the Dept. of Arabic has so far awarded 71 Ph.D and 150 M.Phil degrees. Dept. of Arabic is the second Dept. in India which has been granted funds under Special Assistance Programme.
A Language laboratory and a permanent seminar library have been established with the grant. Dr. Syed Badhiuddin Saberi proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Talath Sultana conducted the meeting.
