Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Mr. Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, commenting upon the proposal of TRS Govt. to provide 12% reservations for Muslims is like giving lollipop. He further told that reservation should be provided within the framework of Constitution of India.
It may be mentioned that in April this year, a resolution was passed in TS Assembly proposing the enhancement of reservations for STs and Muslims. Except BJP, all the other political parties supported it.
Talking to newsmen on Sunday, Mr. Naqvi told that if Constitution does not permit enhancement of reservation, the proposal of 12% reservation for Muslims is like a lollipop. In his opinion, it will not help anyone. It has clearly been mentioned in the Constitution that reservations should not exceed 50%. “If you are giving lollipop, courts will stop it. If this happens, you may say that what can we do, we wanted to give you reservation but courts did not agree”, Mr. Naqvi told.
He also mentioned that by creating a trivial issue, Govt. of Telangana is misleading people. Now, Muslims also have come to understand that it is a political gimmick to get votes. He questioned, “Why can’t these people work for the social, economic and educational development of the Muslims?” He also questioned, “If you do these developmental works, won’t you get votes?”
It may be recalled that CM of TS, Mr. KCR had told in the Assembly that his party would raise this issue in Parliament and if need be, Supreme Court will also be approached.
