Mujib gets lifer in arms haul case

Hyderabad, August 29: City resident Mujib Ahmed was on Friday sentenced to life in the weapons haul case and immediately after the sentencing alleged that he was framed by intelligence chief K Aravinda Rao and the Owaisi family.

Ist additional metropolitan sessions judge L Srirama Murthy sentenced Mujib Ahmed to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under various charges including an attempt to wage war against the nation. His six associates were sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000. Emerging out of the Nampally courts complex after the sentencing, Mujib passed on a hand written letter before the media.

According to the letter, he was only building a constitutional, democratic movement to uplift the minorities from age-old backwardness and due to his work, the Owaisi family perceived a threat to their political and social base.

In the letter he further stated that the internal politics and clashes within the Muslim community forced Owaisi to conspire against him with the help of the CM and intelligence chief K Aravinda Rao. “They fabricated this artificial case,” Mujib alleged.

Mujib Ahmed was arrested by the Hyderabad police in December 2005 after the Ajmer police in Rajasthan intercepted a truck with weapons and ammunition at Geegal police station limits.

Truck driver, Shabbir Ahmed of Baramullah and cleaner Ravinder Kumar confessed that they were instructed by Hizbul Mujahideen to deliver the weapons and ammunition to Mujib Ahmed in Hyderabad.
