Mufti’s demise a ‘great loss’ to nation: Sonia Gandhi

New Delhi: Expressing grief over the demise of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday said that the nation has lost a great leader.

She recalled Mufti’s association with the Congress party and said that his contribution as a humanist to public life in various capacities will be remembered forever.

“Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi has expressed shock and grief at the passing away of J&K Chief Minister, Shri Mufti Mohammad Syed,” Indian National Congress ( INC)’s official twitter handle quoted Sonia as saying.

“Extending condolences to his wife, Ms. Mehbooba Mufti & other family members & friends of Shri Syed, Smt. Gandhi said that in his death the State of J&K as indeed the entire Nation had lost a great leader,” it added.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, while expressing his grief, said that Mufti’s loss would be deeply mourned across the nation.

“Extremely saddened to learn of the passing away of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Saab. My condolences to his family and supporters,” Rahul tweeted.

Sayeed passed away at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) this morning after suffering multiple organ failure. He was 79-years-old.

He was admitted in a private ward at AIIMS on December 24 after he complained of fever and chest pain. (ANI)
