Mufti, Army, Separatists ‘behind’ killings of Panchs, Sarpanchs in J&K: NC

Terming killings of Panchs and Sarpanchs in Jammu and Kashmir as ‘Targetted killings’, National Conference Chief Spokesman and Senior Leader Mustafa Kamaal today allegedly held Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and the Army responsible for the incidents. “Former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is the man behind Panchs and Sarpanchs’ killings, which are targetted at the behest of various politicians, armed forces besides separatists,’ alleged Mr Kamaal while talking to reporters at the sidelines of Youth National Conference day-long convention here this afternoon. The NC leader said, “Mr Mufti is ‘involved’ in the killings as I have already cleared that killings are taking place in the areas where Hizb-ul-Mujaheedin and Jamaat-e-Islami are dominating. In the previous elections, the PDP won most of its seats from these areas,” he added. He further said the PDP patron can go to any extent to de-stabilise the National Conference ruling government in Jammu and Kashmir. “PDP does not want peace to be restored in the state because if it happens, their money minting machine will be affected,” he said. However, coming heavily on separatists, Mr Kamaal alleged that these are “targetted killings” and cannot be stopped.

“Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who remained in the government thrice, suddenly gave up and shifted to promote militancy in the state,” he said. “Separatists are also playing dirty politics and showing no concern towards common man,” he said. The veteran leader also blamed armed forces for being “involved” in the killings of Panchs and Sarpanchs to give an impression that situation is not conducive to revoke Armed Forces Special Powers Act from some parts of the state.
